Trends in pancreatic cancer mortality in Europe in the years 1995-2018
Opltová, Michaela ; Kulhánová, Ivana (advisor) ; Altová, Anna (referee)
Trends in pancreatic cancer mortality in Europe in the years 1995-2018 Abstract Malignant neoplasm of the pancreas is one of the malignant diseases with the worst survival statistics. The death rate per year is currently almost equal to the incidence rate in the world. Europe, along with other developed regions, is among the most affected areas. The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to analyse the development of the intensity of mortality due to malignant neoplasm of the pancreas in selected European countries between 1995 and 2018 and the subsequent comparison of trends between countries and within individual regions. Standardized mortality rates and age-specific mortality rates were mainly used for this purpose. Data came from the WHO Mortality Database and the Human Mortality Database. All states experienced an increase in standardized mortality rates for pancreatic cancer in both sexes. The states of Central and Northern Europe recorded higher values for both sexes, while the lowest values were recorded by the states of Southern Europe. Specific mortality rates increased with age in both sexes also in all analysed states. Key words: mortality, malignant neoplasm of the pancreas, Europe, standardized mortality rate
Gender differences in mortality from cardiovascular diseases in Europe
Trčková, Tereza ; Kulhánová, Ivana (advisor) ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (referee)
Genderdifferencesinmortalityfromcardiovascular diseases inEurope Abstract This thesis aims to analyze the difference in cardiovascular disease mortality between men and women in 21 selected European countries in the period 2001-2019. The intensity of gender differences across the selected countries is examined. With a stronger emphasis, the position of the Czech Republic within Europe is evaluated. To examine gender differences in cardiovascular mortality, the thesis uses standardized cause-specific mortality rates and a comparison of actual life expectancy with hypothetical life expectancy when cardiovascular mortality is suppressed for each country. Cluster analysis is used to identify how countries cluster together based on their similarity of health determinants. The results of the analysis showed that differences between men and women are present in all selected countries. The largest differences are found in Eastern and Central European countries.
Trends in stroke mortality in Czechia in the period 1995-2021
Prystaszová, Adéla ; Kulhánová, Ivana (advisor) ; Lustigová, Michala (referee)
Stroke is one of the most common causes of death in Czechia. The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to analyse trends in stroke mortality between 1995 and 2021 using data from the Czech Statistical Office. Standardized mortality rates, age-specific mortality rates, simple proportion calculations and two-dimensional decomposition method were used for this purpose. The thesis describes a significant decrease in the overall intensity of stroke mortality and intensity by age groups, as well as notable impact of stroke on the increase in life expectancy at birth. Furthermore, the thesis examines changes in the position of stroke among other causes of death, including cardiovascular diseases. The regional differentiation of stroke mortality is also analysed, revealing significant internal variability within Czechia. Additionally, the mortality trends of two main stroke types, ischaemic and haemorrhagic, are briefly outlined. Analysis of differences between men and women is included throughout the whole thesis. Keywords: mortality, stroke, standardized mortality rates, decomposition, Czechia Trends in stroke mortality in Czechia in the period 1995-2021
Population development of district towns in the South Bohemian Region
Votavová, Kateřina ; Šídlo, Luděk (advisor) ; Brázová, Kateřina (referee)
Population development of district towns in the South Bohemian Region Abstract The aim of the thesis is to analyse and describe the population development in the seven largest cities of the South Bohemia Region in the period 1997-2021. The thesis draws on individual and anonymised data to analyse the basic demographic indicators of fertility, mortality and migration. The work compares the cities with each other as well as compares the development with the national average. Among other things, the thesis examines the development documents of cities, especially their efforts to address demographic issues. Moreover, the analysis shows that most cities, with the exception of Písek, tend to lose population, but with different intensity and timing. In all cities fertility intensity and mortality evolve similarly with minimal differences. Finally, the city management is currently trying to address demographic issues in most cities. Keywords: population development, towns, fertility, mortality, migration
Determinants of Regional Differentiation of Mortality in the Czech Republic
Pachlová, Tereza
Determinants of Regional Differentiation of Mortality in the Czech Republic Abstract There are considerable differences in socioeconomic and sociodemographic factors influencing mortality on the individual and also on the aggregate levels. These differences were observed and explained in many countries of the world. The objective of this thesis is to find and evaluate the most significant external factors which influence actual regional differentiation of mortality in districts of the Czech Republic. The objective was achieved by means of the demographic and statistical analysis methods. First, there was a comparison of mortality rates calculated for each of the socioeconomic clusters. It was found out that higher mortality rates appeared among men and women living in the districts with unfavourable external conditions. Using the Poisson log-linear model, the most important factors influencing differences in mortality rates in districts of the Czech Republic were identified. These factors are: share of the unemployed, share of the divorced, share of university-educated people and the number of physicans in hospitals per 1000 inhabitants. Share of the unemployed seems to be the most significant factor. There is a correlation between this factor and the total mortality rate as well as the leading causes of...
Tuberculosis - re-established problem of European population
Jírová, Jitka
Tuberculosis - re-established problem of European population Abstract The main objective of this study is to collect data and to provide information about current tuberculosis burden on European population and to capture the most important trends in development of spreading the infection in the European region in the period 1995-2010. A typology of the countries of the European region is performed on the base of main features of tuberculosis morbidity and mortality in the period 2008-2010. Detailed analysis of level of tuberculosis morbidity and mortality for each region was based on available data. The study also presents the plans of major world and European organizations to eliminate spread of tuberculosis.
Demografický vývoj vybraných zemí jižní Evropy
Dundálková, Zuzana
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to show the demographic development of selected countries in Southern Europe (Italy, Portugal, Greece and Spain) in the period of 1995 - 2011. The thesis is composed from two parts: theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part, contains explanation and description of demographic indicators and also demography in its general use. The practical part, contains the demographic indicators after thorough examination, presented and evaluated for every subjected country. In detail, specific indicators were used such as: birth rate, fertility, abortion, mortality, migration, marriage and divorce rates.
The effects of ageing on working age populations that developed and developing countries face: study case of Czech republic and the United Mexican States
Aldama Gonzalez, Hector Santiago
Ageing has always been part of human life; for the first time in history elderly people will soon become the largest group in most societies around the world. This research focuses on highlighting the challenges that developed and developing countries face with the aging of the population. The theoretical part is directed to the understanding of the aging of the population as well as its implication among developed and developing countries. The practical part focuses on a comparison of the aging of the population in the Czech Republic and the United Mexican States through an analysis of quantitative data over the performance of the labor force and general population of Czechia and Mexico with indicators obtained from government institutions specialized in the compilation of population censuses of the last 20 years. The emphasis of this work is to focus on understanding the effects that aging has over society. Unless mechanism such as the creation of new public policies, a positive net migration balance and stable fertility rates are taken to solve the effects of the ageing of the population, the aging of the population will reduce the working age population in the Czech Republic and in the United Mexican States.
Comparison of risks of people occupationally exposed to ionizing radiation to people working in other professions
VORÁČKOVÁ, Marcela
The diploma thesis deals with the examination of risks impacting persons professionally exposed to ionizing radiation and the dangers posed by other professions. It is divided into a theoretical and practical part. The theory explains the concept of ionizing radiation and considers its sources. It also discusses the effects and subsequent exposures and protection. There is a brief chapter on workplaces with radiation sources. The practical part is designed in the form of qualitative research. The aim was to compare the risks in ccupations in which people are exposed to ionizing radiation with the risks of persons in other professions. During the research, I determined radiation doses, radiation risks in employees, the number of expected deaths, the cause of exposure, the consequences and the possibility of preventive measures. I also examined mortality in other selected professions. I determined the number of deaths caused by cancer and other diseases and injuries. At the end there are three interviews with the physicians of Prague hospitals and a nuclear power station providing information on this issue from their many years of experience. In the discussion part, the results are being compared and evaluated. The risks of death of irradiated workers, the benefits they actually receive, have been shown to be low, and their positions are therefore considered safe compared to other professions. For other jobs, on the other hand, a high number of deaths during working hours has been ascertained. In the case of the risk of death of irradiated workers with "tolerable" doses, the values are already higher in comparison with other professions. Despite the benefits of the work, its research may be negatively affected by a small selection of professions - not all existing positions have been included, such as teachers, bricklayers, train drivers, game carers and others. Therefore, it is important to further nvestigate the risks and discuss the correct setting of limits for radiation workers.
Analysis of the regional development of mortality in NUTS 3 regions in Czechia and Sweden during 1997-2011
Trajer, Jiří ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Kučera, Tomáš (referee)
Analysis of the regional development of mortality in NUTS 3 regions in Czechia and Sweden during 1997-2011 Abstract The aim of this thesis is to analyze and describe the development of regional mortality in Czechia and Sweden from 1997 to 2011. Besides of total mortality of both countries and their regions we will focus on the development of regional mortality and regional differentiation of mortality from five most common causes of death for both sexes. These five groups include diseases of circulatory, respiratory and digestive system and neoplasms with external causes of morbidity and mortality. As a basic indicator from selected causes of death is used age-standardized mortality rate and in case of total mortality is also used life expectancy. In both countries the raise of life expectancy and decline of standardized mortality rates were observed during the monitored period. The decline of standardized mortality rates were observed in both countries for almost all causes of death with one exception. The exception was rise of the mortality from respiratory system diseases in Czechia. Keywords: mortality, regional analysis, causes of death, Czechia, Sweden, regional inequalities
